At Pet World the most important members of our staff are our youth volunteers!
Our Junior Volunteer program is paused indefinitely. We will post here and on social media when it resumes. - Updated May 14, 2024
Pet World junior volunteers help out anywhere between once a month and once a week for an hour at a time to socialize our animals. Volunteers provide valuable insight into what's going on with our current pets. They know which bunnies need to get used to being held, which bird is still working on learning to "step up" and which hamster is especially quick when picked up. Their work with these animals is part of what makes buying a pet at Pet World so great - they've already been worked with, trained, and loved by our volunteers!
Our volunteers not only work hard while they're here but they worked hard to get the position! Volunteers are not only asked to provide us with why they want to be a volunteer, but they also must get personal recommendations from a parent and a mentor in order to be accepted!
As a volunteer, kids start working with the small mammals first. If they continue to volunteer at Pet World they learn how to handle the birds, reptiles and even help out in the fish room!
Junior volunteers are true animal lovers, as they're routinely peed on, pooped on, scratched and even bitten during their shifts. They understand this is just a normal part of being a professional animal handler!
If your animal-loving child, or a child you know, is between the ages of 11 and 15 and looking to make a positive difference with animals, our Junior Volunteer Program might be a perfect fit! Kids who completed Animal Camp or Wilderness Camp may begin the program a year early at age 10.
We accept applications for Junior Volunteers during the months of August, January and May. Our Junior Volunteer program is paused indefinitely. We will post here and on social media when it resumes. - Updated May 14, 2024
